My Entrepreneurial Journey
I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. My parents had a chain of cosmetic stores when I was growing up. As soon as I could use a computer I was helping create power point presentations and taking product photos.
One summer I got a job at an ice cream shop after I backed into my neighbor’s car. It turns out I was a miserable ice cream scooper (and driver). The next summer I started my first venture (puppix - pop art pet portraits). I made more in my first week than the previous summer.
After graduating from NYU film school I helped my family start a new makeup company. I was swimming in glitter and tasked with making it a web-based business. This is where I got involved in tech. I learned many classic product lessons that year.
As my affinity for building things on the internet grew I was drawn to the cold mist of San Francisco. I ran a social network for small business owners. While in fog city I met my friend and co-founder Sumeet. Sumeet was the friend of my Craigslist roommates who lived up the street (literally up the hill). We started working on projects together and started GoMakeIt. We sold it to Google 1 week later and rode off into the…JK we made more mistakes and learned more lessons. We’ve now created a bunch of cool stuff and one became our business (Brandbacker).
There is a lot to write about the sites and businesses we've made but the general thread and mission has been around helping people (specifically makers and creators).
